P*A*T*R*I*O*T A*L*E*R*T

This was our 2nd Annual "Flags of Freedom" 9/11 remembrance event, started by my son, John, last year. The local newspaper guy came out and took some pictures. This is the text that was written under the picture: Remembering 9/11 From left, J.R. B - - - - - , Josiah E - - - , James B - - - - - , Jesse E - - - , Windsor J - - - - - - , John B - - - - - , and Ben J - - - - - - headed out to the Main Street overpass and waved the American flag last Thursday, Sept. 11, generating car horns of support from freeway traffic below. James B, green shirt and shades in the middle, is my other son. Blessedly, the photographer did not identify me (far left, behind the flag) and sadly, he did not even get Ben in the photo! We intenitonally did not put up any signage because this was not intended to be a political statement, just a show of appreciation for what we have in this country. (Also, we would have felt REALLY BAD if someone had run off the road trying to read a sign...) The flag was a statement in and of itself. There was a tremendous amount of support from the rush-hour traffic below, and a few idiots who felt they needed to use their freedom of expression to exhibit foul gestures. (Comment on these folks to follow) Some observations made about those who showed support...or not... The most likely to be very enthusiatic in their displays of support were: truck drivers, drivers of other assorted work vehicles, motorcyclists, RV drivers (probably retirees), soccer-mom types The most likely to give the old "foul finger" display were 20-something males driving beat-up little foreign cars. So, the folks who actually contribulte to society, work for a living and raise families are most likely to appreciate their freedoms... And the other guys? Well, I really wanted to send them to Iran, North Korea or Turkmenistan for a few weeks, bring them home (if they survive the trip) and watch them KISS THE GROUND of the USA that they were so blessed to be born in. |
